The onshore plant in Cyprus
SubSea Infrastructure (SSI) has installed a temporary modular desalination plant, delivered in Cyprus in an unprecedented eight months – the first of a new generation of high-output, low-impact mobile desalination solutions to be employed in the world.
Silnir Cyprus, the joint venture between SSI and water treatment specialists Nirosoft Industries, built the new ultra filtration/reverse osmosis plant at Moni using a new modular construction concept which SSI believes will become a significant tool in addressing critical fresh water shortages worldwide.
The plant currently delivers 21,000m3 of drinking water per day, and serves the town of Limassol and surrounding areas - providing a partial solution to the serious water shortage problem being experienced on the island.
The plant will operate on a contract basis until the end of 2011, whilst a permanent full-scale desalination plant is constructed along the coast at Episkopi Bay.
